Appropriate Technology, or AT: A self-defined term referring to the use of technology, or sometimes lack of, to provide efficient means of completing a task or fulfilling a need.

Embedded Energy: The energy it took to create or harvest a material from it's raw form to the form used during construction. Lumber's embedded energy can include the travel to the harvesting site, the energy to cut down the tree, the energy to transport it to the mill, the energy to mill and treat the wood, the transport to the retailer, and the energy to transport it to the construction site.
